I always use Adobe Illustrator when designing logos which means they can be scaled to any size with no loss in quality. In the final logo package I would send to you, I include all the files you would need to advertise and brand your company, which can include the original Illustrator file, a B&W version, a white version (for dark backgrounds), Favicon for websites, JPEGS, PNGS (in various sizes) logos that fit Twitter and Facebook and also logo variants so that the logo fits horizontally or vertically.
